Since the start of the pandemic I have started an online podcast with my good friend and fantastic piano player, Josh Nelson. We interview musicians who were part of the West Coast jazz scene of the 50’s and 60’s and musicians who are affiliated with that scene. We have interviewed Bill Holman, Terry Gibbs, Gene Cipriano, John Clayton, Jeff Hamilton, Kim Richmond and many more.

Dutch Concert Big Band at Splendor

It is with great pride that I can announce that the DCBB will be the first big band which will play at Splendor. This new stage in Amsterdam is organised for musicians by musicians. We will play old works by Rob Pronk, Jerry van Rooyen and Frans Elsen. We will play contemporary work by Joan Reinders, Rob Horsting and Henk Meutgeert. Last but not least we will play two brand new works by two young talented composers namely Joëlle Goldman and Matthijs Stautener. This will be my last gig (for now) with the big band before I depart to Los Angeles.

Nice words about the DCBB plays Dutch Originals cd

Hello all,

Some of the finest musicians that I know, listened to the cd of the big band. I’m thrilled that these great musicians took the time to listen to the music that I love and what they think about the DCBB. Check out who and what they had to say!

“The band’s performance, the great arrangements and the excellence of Kevin van den Elzen’s drumming
make this CD one that all big band lovers must have!”

Dennis Mackrel, former drummer of the Count Basie Orchestra and the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra.

“Great tunes, interpretation, blowing…..and swinging! You played your ass off. Something I generally wouldn’t notice….but the snare drum sound reminded me of Mel….nice. Congrats!”

Jay Anderson, double bass player of Maria Schneider, Toshiko Akiyoshi and Adam Nussbaum’s BANN

“Wonderful recording in every way!
Beautifully Performed by all! Outstanding Writing with depth and homage to the tradition!
Swing, Groove, Sound, Ensemble togetherness and solos are performed in the Highest of Order!
Bravissssssssssssssimo!”
Justin DiCioccio, head of the jazz department at the Manhattan School of Music and former drummer of the President’s Own.
You can get the cd on Itunes and Amazon. The cd is also available on Spotify and for a physical copy you can contact me personally!
